ABOUT ME
My name is Alex, and I've been interested in weather and photography for as long as I can remember. I was always excited to get my parents' old cameras when they would get a new one and would use them to take pictures of everything. I also had a fascination with nature and natural disasters, especially the weather. Over time, these two interests began to merge. My interest in the atmosphere grew, and I began to take pictures of weather phenomena in my area starting in high school. This fascination in weather eventually led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, a Master of Science in Geoscience, and a Ph.D. in Meteorology, and I am currently employed as a meteorologist. I enjoy traveling across the country, usually with my wife, Michelle, whether it’s to chase storms, take a road trip, or go on vacation.
I like documenting what I see for many reasons. The main reason is sharing my joy, excitement, love, and passion for what I see in the sky and in nature. Through so much of our lives today do we forget to look around us and see the natural beauty of the world. This beauty comes in many different forms, and the form I love the most is what nature produces. I find nature fascinating because it puts your life in perspective, both with its beauty and its danger. With all of our technology and all of our scientific advancements, we are no match for it. We can’t stop tornadoes. We can’t reproduce sunsets. We have to sit and watch as a hail storm beats our homes and cars mercilessly, while rivers reclaim their flood plains, and while ice storms turn 20-minute commutes into 5-hour commutes. I try to capture moments of nature at its worst or at its best as appropriately as I can, because not everyone can see it and experience it like I do. I hope the pictures you see here inspire you just as much as the scenes that they captured inspired me.
